Featured: We are Makers
Towards the end of last year we were invited to be part of a publication that celebrates makers around the world. We were excited, and curious. Both Eric and I began looking into the publication and those behind it. We browsed samples of their prior editions, learned a little about the makers, and knew pretty quickly we wanted in.
“Kate and Jack Lennie are makers themselves. They know first-hand both the joy of honing a craft and the frustrations of going it alone while trying to gain visibility for their work. The pair met while studying Product Design at Edinburgh Napier University and have since taken on various creative projects. Jack works in film and television as a special effects engineer. Kate founded Ardent Leather after a stint as a children’s furniture designer and is now working full time on the We Are Makers publication.
Kate and Jack have created a place to share experiences, journeys and ambitions; a network where conversations and collaborations between crafts and trades can begin. We Are Makers is an opportunity to overcome the frustrations and loneliness of the independent craftsperson. By uniting makers, it channels that contagious joy of being surrounded by people who love what they do.” (https://wearemakers.shop)
The whole publication is comprised of short bio’s that feature a myriad of talented makers from all over the globe. It includes pictures of their work and the studio spaces they create in. Being a creative, I have always enjoyed getting a peek into the spaces that others produce in - it gives you a little glimpse into who they are and how they operate, which I have always found inspiring. We have no idea who else is featured in the pages along side us, and we’re both anxious to get our hands on a copy to find out. We are honored to have been recognized by our peers, and be included in this wonderful celebration of artists and craftsman.
Kate and Jack recently held a contest for the cover, and we were over the moon to find out that Eric’s hands turning a vase on the wheel won by popular vote. Photo credit to our talented friend Joe Gonzalez.
Copies of the publication will be available online at https://wearemakers.shop and at Barnes and Nobel stores across the US sometime in March.
